Development of the Building
History of the Home
The home is made up of four separate units and provides specialist nursing care for older people with dementia type illnesses and working age adults with mental health issues under the supervision of Registered Nurses.
The home has been subject to a number of extensions over recent years and is now currently undergoing further extensive refurbishment and alterations to provide the same level of high standard accommodation in line with the other Graham Care Homes and is being carried out in the following phased sequence of works:-
Willow Works: Phase One & Phase Two – (Complete)
Willow Annex – A second storey has been constructed above the existing ground floor to provide two more suites which are linked to the main building by extending the existing first floor corridor.
At the same time an extension has been constructed to the front of the main Willow building. This is to provide a larger replacement for the old Ivy lounge and incorporates a raised area of ceiling roof lights to provide generous natural daylight. Two kitchenettes/spacious dining areas have also been incorporated.
In addition, further internal alteration work within Willow has provided new office accommodation including a nurses station.
These works were completed in February 2013.
Ivy Works: Phase Three to Phase Six (Current)
The existing communal sitting room has been relocated to the adjoining Willow block and with a small ground floor extension the revised accommodation will provide new larger suites with ensuite and kitchen bar facilities.
The first floor comprises the construction of an extension over the existing single storey ground floor area at the front of the building which will also provide accommodation for a further seven new suites, with three of these being at the rear of the building.
The works to form the extensions will be carried out in traditional methods with cavity walls clad with render and tiles hung to match the existing buildings with white upvc windows under trussed roofs covered with plain tiles.
This project was successfully completed in December 2013. Please click on Finished Interiors or Finished Exteriors for photographs of the newly upgraded areas. Works to enlarge the main entrance area will commence sometime in the future, details to be released in due course.
